Railways said in a statement on Thursday that in the period April-November 2022, it transported 97.87 crore tonnes of goods. While in the same period a year ago, this figure was 90.31 million tonnes. In this way, an increase of eight per cent has been registered in the freight traffic of the Railways during this period. In the first eight months of the current financial year, Railways has earned Rs 1,05,905 crore from freight, which is 16 percent more than a year ago.
By how much did the income of the Railways increase?
In April-November 2021, Railways earned Rs 91,127 crore from freight. In the month of November, the Railways transported 12.39 million tonnes of goods, which is five percent more than the 11.69 million tonnes in November 2021. Railways said in its statement that it has achieved this achievement due to its efforts to promote freight movement under the ‘Hungry for Cargo’ campaign.
Apart from this, let us tell you that the government company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has invited bids for the maintenance of Vande Bharat train. It is among the 5 companies that will manufacture and maintain 200 Vande Bharat trains for the next 35 years. This whole deal is worth Rs 58,000 crore. BHEL has tied up with Titagarh Wagons for this. Company officials told that under this deal, Rs 26,000 crore will be given first for the supply of trains. At the same time, Rs 32,000 crore will be paid for their maintenance over a period of 35 years.
In the coming days, the facility of sleeper coach can also be given in Vande Bharat train. These coaches will be equipped with Wi-Fi facility. Not only this, every coach will have a notice board to give information to the passengers, LED screen for infotainment. The newly designed Vande Bharat Express trains will have a photo-catalytic ultraviolet air purification system, which will maintain the air quality inside the coach. Vande Bharat train with sleeper class may start in the first quarter of 2024.
