For the second consecutive year in the country, the possibility of decreasing wheat production has increased. The Meteorological Department itself has admitted that due to increase in temperature in the major wheat producing states during February, the yield of wheat may decrease. Last year too, due to increase in temperature in February and March, the yield declined and due to this, the inflation of wheat reached a record high. Although the government has recently sold wheat from its stock in the open market, due to which the prices have come down and to further reduce the prices, the government has again decided to sell additional 20 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market.
The arrival of new crop wheat has started in some states of the country and the price for new wheat is running above the support price fixed by the government. The government has declared the support price of wheat at Rs 2125 per quintal while the price in the mandis is around Rs 2300-2400. In the coming days, the challenge of inflation may increase further. Due to increase in cost, the increased milk prices have made all the products made from milk expensive, ie ghee, curd, butter, powdered milk, ice cream and even baby food. Consumer goods companies have also started passing on the increased cost of production to the customers. Due to which there is a possibility of increase in the prices of many things which are used in daily use. During the next 1-2 months, there may be a sharp increase in the prices of many consumer goods.
