All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has decided to go on strike on Saturday to protest against outsourcing of jobs. AIBEA general secretary CH Venkatachalam gave this information. He said that the work of public sector banks may be affected by the strike. However, private banks will not be affected by this and their work will continue as before.
It is being said that the officer class will not participate in this strike, but this may affect the work of deposit, withdrawal, check clearance in banks. Several banks, including Bank of Baroda and Punjab and Sind Bank, have already informed their customers about the impact of services in the event of a strike on November 19.
Punjab and Sind Bank told the stock exchanges on Thursday that if there is a strike, bank employees can participate in it. In such a situation, the normal functioning of the branches/offices of the bank is likely to be affected. Venkatachalam said that outsourcing of jobs by some banks could pose a risk to the privacy of customers and their deposits.
Venkatachalam said that some banks are also violating the Industrial Disputes (Amendment) Act. He further said that even in such cases in which the labor officers have intervened, the advice of the management is being ignored. It is alleged that the management has forcibly transferred the employees, which is being opposed by the bank employees’ union.
Due to this strike, the working of banks can be affected on a large scale because on November 19, it is the third Saturday of the month which falls in the working days. November 20 is a Sunday on which the functioning of the banks comes to a complete standstill. In this way, if the work could not be done on Saturday, then it will have to wait for the next week i.e. Monday. Bank branches are generally more crowded on Mondays. The only way to avoid this is that the important work of the bank should be done on Friday. (All photo-PTI)
