More or less 147 districts of the country are at risk of landslides that caused havoc in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. The biggest risk of landslides is in Rudraprayag district, where Baba Kedarnath Dham is located. Along with this, the name of Tehri district is also one of the most sensitive districts. This has been revealed in the latest ‘Landslide Atlas’ report of ISRO’s Hyderabad-based National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC).

Districts of Uttarakhand are very sensitive
Uttarakhand is a very sensitive state in terms of landslides. According to the State Emergency Operation Center data, there were 253 incidents of landslides in Uttarakhand between 2018 and 2021. 127 people died in these incidents.
According to the Atlas report, more than 11,000 landslide incidents have been recorded in Uttarakhand in the last two decades. Among these, maximum landslide areas fall on Rishikesh-Rudraprayag-Chamoli-Badrinath, Rudraprayag-Ukhimath-Kedarnath, Chamoli-Ukhimath, Rishikesh-Uttarkashi-Gangotri route.
While Rudraprayag and Tehri of Uttarakhand are at first and second place, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are at the end of this list at 146th and 147th place respectively.
10 most landslide prone districts
According to the Landslide Atlas, apart from Rudraprayag and Tehri in Uttarakhand, other districts highly vulnerable to landslides include Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram in Kerala, Rajouri and Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, South Sikkim and East Sikkim in Sikkim.

Kedarnath has faced disaster in 2013

There was a terrible disaster in Kedarnath in 2013, in which thousands of people died. According to the latest reports, Sirobgarh and Narkota areas of Rudraprayag are most affected by the landslide. There are reports of landslides from here throughout the year, while during the monsoon, the incidence of landslides increases.
Threat on 11 out of 12 districts of Himachal
According to the Landslide Risk Analysis report of NRSC, 11 out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh are included in 147 districts. Mandi district is most prone to landslides in Himachal. The rank of this district is 16th in the country in the landslide risk list. Whereas Hamirpur is at 25th place, Bilaspur at 30th place, Chamba at 32nd place, Solan at 37th place, Kinnaur at 46th place, Kullu at 57th place, Shimla at 61st place, Una at 70th place and Sirmaur at 88th place. Siraumar Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal with very low population density is at 126th position.
Bad condition of these districts in Jammu and Kashmir
14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, which are included in the Himalayan states, are also included in the list of districts with landslide risk. Among these, Rajouri and Poonch are included in the top-10. Apart from these, Jammu is at 14th position, Udhampur at 17th and Pulwama at 27th position. The names of Kathua (42), Anantnag (52), Baramulla (58), Doja (79), Srinagar (98), Budgam (119), Kargil (132) and Leh Ladakh (136) are also included in this list.
