The government has given a big gift to more than one crore central employees and pensioners. The government has increased the dearness allowance and dearness relief by 4 percent. Now both have increased from 38 per cent to 42 per cent. The current hike will be effective from January 1, 2023. This will put a financial burden of Rs 12815 crore on the government every year.

The DA and DR of central government employees and pensioners are revised twice a year in January and July. Dearness allowance is given to government employees, while dearness relief is for pensioners. The current hike will be effective from January 1, 2023. Earlier, more than one crore central government employees and pensioners were getting 38 per cent dearness allowance. Which has increased to 42 percent. The government had again announced an increase in DA in July 2021.

Recently, the Center issued a clarification on 18 months DA arrears and said that 18 months Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears of employees will not be released. It was stopped during the COVID epidemic. The Center had stopped three installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) in 2020 in view of the COVID pandemic. Since this time, Central Government employees and pensioners have been waiting for updates on pending dues. Central employees had saved 34 thousand crore rupees due to this restriction.
