Dr Vineet said, “It is a non linear with time” activity. It is certain that the land is sinking very fast, but the unitary rule of mathematics will not apply in this.
What will happen next in Joshimath?
Indian Space Research Agency ISRO The satellite images of Joshimath released by ISRO are really frightening. It is being said primarily that if this situation continues, the entire Joshimath city will collapse. Through these pictures, ISRO has told that from April to November 2022, the speed of land subsidence was very slow, but in recent times this city is sinking very fast.
After analyzing these pictures and after studying the reports, experts clearly say that it is not possible to save this city at the moment. of CSIR Nation Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad chief scientist Dr Vineet Gehlot Said in a conversation with NewsNCR Hindi Digital that what will happen to Joshimath in the next 7-10 days, nothing can be said.
Math rules don’t apply
Based on ISRO’s pictures and reports, Dr. Vineet says that between April and November 2022, ie in 7 months, Joshimath has sunk about 9 cm (-8.9 CM). But between 27 December 2022 and 8 January 2023, ie within 12 days, the land has sunk 5.4 cm (-5.4 CM).
Dr Vineet said, “It is a non linear with time” activity. It is certain that the land is sinking very fast, but the unitary rule of mathematics will not apply in this. In this, it cannot be estimated by calculating like mathematics, how much the land will sink in the next 10-12 days.
How fast will the subsidence happen, not sure
Regarding the reasons for the subsidence, Dr. Vineet said that apart from natural reasons, there are man-made reasons as well. Incidents like landslides and landslides occur due to anthropogenic activities i.e. both nature and man-made reasons. Such as tunnel construction, excavation, road construction etc. Due to these construction activities, it is not decided at what speed the landslide will happen. It is also difficult to guess about this.
Landslide will continue, no solution can be found
Former Scientist, Wadia Institute Dr DP Doval Told in a conversation with NewsNCR that what is happening in Joshimath is not a landslide, but a subsidence. That is, here the land is not slipping, but is sinking. He said that the cracks coming in the roads or walls are from East to West. Had it been vertical, it would have been considered a land slide. But it is horizontal. This landslide situation will continue for the next few days.
He said that at the moment no solution is being thought of. Shifting of people seems to be the only immediate solution. There is overburden on the mountains. He said that this situation is not only in Joshimath, but such a situation is being created in many surrounding areas and it is necessary to shift people from there to safer places.
