The Labor Ministry said that so far about 1.66 crore workers have registered themselves on the e-Shram Portal made for the workers of the unorganized sector. Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav distributed e-shram cards to workers in the unorganized sector in Mumbai on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement. During this, he personally handed over cards to 10 workers, who will now be able to take advantage of government schemes anywhere in the country. The registered worker on the e-shram portal gets the facility of free accidental insurance of Rs 2 lakh.

Apart from this, Yadav also gave approval letters for the EASI COVID-19 relief scheme to the dependents of 11 workers who lost their lives due to COVID-19. Also distributed acceptance letters of Atal Insured Persons Welfare Relief Scheme to 10 workers of the unorganized sector.

The ministry said that so far about 1.66 crore unorganized workers have been registered on the e-shram portal and this is the country’s first national database of workers in the unorganized sector. According to the ministry, this is the first step in the direction of creating a comprehensive database of unorganized workers of various sectors. This includes unorganized workers in construction, apparel manufacturing, fishing, retailing, domestic work, agriculture and allied classes, transport sector, etc.

Workers get insurance of 2 lakhs

There is also a provision of accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for every registered unorganized worker on the e-shram portal. If a worker registered on the portal is a victim of an accident, then two lakh rupees in case of death or permanent physical disability and one lakh rupees in case of partial physical disability.

Actually, the government sends money directly to the account of people in times of national crisis like COVID-19. Now the government will bring many schemes of the registered people on this portal, so that the registered people will get its benefit. If you also work in the unorganized sector and the government brings a scheme for them, then you will not be able to get the benefit of it. Regarding the information shared on the e-shram portal on behalf of EPFO, it has been said that financial help will reach the account directly.
