Only 41 percent of the families in the country have health insurance. 59 percent are getting treatment without health insurance. NFHS-5 figures show that people in rural areas are more serious about their health than in urban areas. Know which states are ahead and which are lagging behind.
Statistics show that Rajasthanis are at the forefront of getting health insurance. One or the other member of 87.8 percent of the families here has health insurance.
Talking about the largest states in terms of population, Bihar is the most backward in this matter. Only 14.6 percent of the families here have health insurance.
The survey included health insurance which is being provided free of cost by the government, companies are getting it done for employees and people are getting it by buying policies from private companies.
In the last 5 years, the number of people having health insurance has increased by 12 percent. One of the biggest reasons for this is the free health insurance available through government schemes.
