Experts say that there is no possibility of any threat from this type of virus in India. There are some vaccines available, which can treat it. The virus can be controlled by strict monitoring at airports and timely identification of the infected.
The corona epidemic has not yet ended in the world, but in the meantime, the monkeypox virus has also knocked in many countries. So far this virus has spread in 15 countries. In just two weeks, the number of infected with this virus has crossed the 100 mark. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that meeting any one infected with this virus in a country will also be considered an outbreak. In view of the increasing threat across the world, India has also become alert. The National Center for Disease Control has issued an alert regarding monkeypox. Orders have been given to increase surveillance at airports. Along with this, people coming from countries affected by monkeypox have also been asked to isolate.
According to scientists, there are two variants of this virus. One is the variant found in Central Africa and the other in West Africa, there is a slight difference between the symptoms of both the variants. Although it is not a new virus. Monkeypox virus was first detected in a monkey in 1958. Years later, the virus spread from monkeys to humans, and in 1970, the first person confirmed monkeypox.
Will India also be at risk from monkeypox?
According to experts, the monkeypox virus belongs to the small pox family. Some of its symptoms are similar to small pox. In the beginning it is like a flu and later other symptoms are seen. Since now after many years, the risk of monkeypox is increasing again worldwide and this virus has spread to about 15 countries within 15 days. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the virus can spread rapidly to other countries. In such a situation, will India also be at risk from monkeypox?
Epidemiologist Dr. Anshuman Kumar says that the way small pox, chicken pox and cow pox are viruses. Similarly, monkeypox is also one such virus. It was spread from monkeys to humans. Its infection also spreads from one person to another. However, there is nothing to panic about it. Because this is not a new virus.
Many cases of this have come to the fore in the past and during that time there was not much danger. When the first case of this virus came in 1970, after that it used to be infected in African countries. Even then no fatal effect was seen. This virus has spread many times and its effect has been seen only in some small areas. Surveillance systems have become even more modern after the corona epidemic. With this, any virus infected is easily detected. So there is no need to panic in India.
Is this virus deadly?
This virus is not fatal nor does it spread as fast as corona. Skin-to-skin contact is necessary for it to spread. It does not spread through the air or through the breath. Earlier, whenever there were cases of this virus, at that time the patients were easily recovered from it. The monkeypox virus does not stay in the human body for long. Its symptoms are also mild. It can stay in the body only for seven to 10 days. The type of effect is chicken pox or small pox. Almost the same type happens in monkeypox as well. Cases of deaths from this have also not been reported.
Therefore, it is only necessary that the passengers coming from the areas where this virus is being transmitted should be kept in quarantine. People who have high fever and are showing symptoms of monkeypox will also have to be kept under special supervision. Checking will have to be increased at the airport and port. Also, timely identification of patients with high fever and viral symptoms will have to be done. The patient who looks a little suspicious will have to isolate at the airport itself. If a patient is coming to the hospitals, who has recently visited a forest and has high fever, then the samples of such patients will also have to be examined.
If you are alert then there will be no danger
However, experts say that there is no possibility of any threat from this type of virus in India. There are some vaccines available. by which it can be treated. The virus can be controlled by strict monitoring at airports and timely identification of the infected. Due to this there is no possibility of increase in hospitalization or deaths. However, for the time being it also has to be seen whether this time the effect of this virus will be the same as last time or some difference will also be seen on the symptoms.
