In this era of coronavirus, many questions are being raised regarding the safety of children. The third wave of corona virus coming in the country can have a big and bad effect on the children. Therefore, the families of homes where there are small children are very worried. Apart from this, there are many other types of questions regarding children, which are very important for every parent to know the answer. What precautions should be taken regarding children in this difficult time of Coronavirus, Manish Manan, Senior Dr (Major) of Paras Healthcare gave detailed information on this topic. Let us tell you that Dr. Manish Manan is the HoD of the Department of Pediatrics & Neonatology at Paras Healthcare.
Children below 2 years should not wear masks
Dr. Manish Manan told that according to WHO, children up to 5 years of age do not need to use masks. At the same time, children whose age is less than 2 years, they should not wear masks at all. Children up to the age of 2 years may have trouble breathing due to the mask. Apart from this, children who are between the age of 2 to 5 years are asked not to wear masks because they repeatedly move the mask up and down and touch their nose and mouth. In such a situation, the risk of spreading infection increases.
It is very important to wash children’s masks thoroughly daily.
Apart from this, Dr. Manan told that special care should be taken that children should always wear clean and washed masks. It should not happen that children keep wearing the same mask for several days without cleaning it. If children wear dirty masks, then the risk of spreading infection increases manifold. He told that when an older child goes to a crowded area, he must wear a mask. Children’s masks should not be just for show, it simply means that the child should cover his nose and mouth well with the mask.
Inculcate the habit of washing hands with soap or handwash
While interacting with NewsNCR, Dr. Manish Manan told that children should inculcate the habit of washing hands with soap or handwash. Sanitizer can be harmful for young children. Not only this, in this era of corona virus, children have started using sanitizer indiscriminately. Even small children use sanitizer instead of washing their hands before eating food. Dr. Manan told that there is a great need for parents to pay attention to this because it can be very harmful for the health of the children. Actually, many types of chemicals are found in the sanitizer, which can cause problems by going into the stomach of children. Therefore, parents should keep in mind that when their child is at home, wash hands with soap or handwash instead of sanitizer.
