Our country is full of diversity socially and culturally. There is diversity in our culture, tradition, lifestyle as well as food. Our food is completely different from western countries like America and Britain. Even it is okay that all these things depend on us humans, but you will be surprised to know that the digestive system of the people of western countries and us Indians is also different.
In a research, researchers have told that there is a difference in the bacteria found in the digestive system of the population of Western countries and that of Indian people. Due to this the digestive system is also bound to be affected. Explain that the presence of bacteria is necessary for the dietary system of humans.
What came out in the research of IISER
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal has found differences in the group of bacteria present in the digestive system due to different dietary patterns in the population of India and Western countries. This research, conducted in collaboration with the University of South Dakota in the US, also found a connection between these bacteria and inflammatory diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
It has been said in this research study that these things have been seen due to the difference in diet pattern in these two geographical areas. In fact, the Indian diet is far more complete in carbohydrates and fiber than the diet system of Western countries. This research study has been published in the Nature Portfolia journal Biofilms and Microbiomes.
300 to 500 types of bacteria in the digestive system
We humans have 300 to 500 types of bacteria present in the digestive system, which are essential for life. These bacteria help with digestion, protect against infection and even produce essential vitamins and neurochemicals the body needs. German scientists in 2011 divided humans into three groups Prevotella, Bacteroides and Ruminococcus based on the number of bacteria in the digestive system.
Research study done on 200 people
Vineet K Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, IISER, Bhopal, said that in the study done in India, our team took samples of the digestive system of 200 people in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, National Capital Region, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, Bihar and Kerala. Were.
Prevotella bacteria
The researchers found that the Indian digestive system has a high abundance of the Prevotella type of bacteria. It was also found to be high in populations of countries such as Italy, Madagascar, Peru and Tanzania consuming a diet rich in carbohydrates and fibre. However, in people of countries like America, more Bacteroides were found in the digestive system. Sharma said that this study will help in developing the necessary probiotics for the population of non-Western countries.
