If your weight is suddenly increasing or decreasing then it may be a sign of thyroid disease. This disease is seen more in women. Doctors say that ignoring the symptoms of this disease can prove to be fatal.

Dr Vijay Jain of the Department of Medicine, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, explains that the thyroid is located in the endocrine gland located in the lower part of the neck. In this, along with increasing or decreasing weight, hormones also get disturbed. This disease occurs due to the enlargement of the thyroid gland. This gland is shaped like a butterfly, which controls many important activities of the body. The thyroid gland produces T3 and T4 thyroxine hormones that directly affect breathing, heart rate, digestive system and body temperature. Along with this, they also control bones, muscles and cholesterol. When these hormones become unbalanced in the body, then the weight starts increasing or decreasing, it is called thyroid problem. It is a silent killer disease as its symptoms do not appear immediately.

Weight loss or gain is the most common symptom

Senior medical doctor Ajay Kumar explains that the thyroid gland produces a hormone called thyroxine in the body, which controls the body’s energy, protein production and sensitivity to other hormones. The most common symptom of thyroid is weight loss. Apart from this, the problem of sleeplessness includes excessive thirst, excessive sweating, trembling of hands, rapid heart beat, weakness and anxiety. It is a disease whose symptoms are not immediately recognized in the early stages.

Iodine- Thyroid patient should eat iodine rich food. Iodine reduces the side effects of the thyroid gland.

Fish – Iodine is found in high amounts in it. Although iodine is found in all fish, but marine fishes contain a high amount of iodine.

Dairy products – Vitamins, minerals, calcium and other nutrients are found in sufficient quantity in milk and curd. Eating curd increases the immunity of the body.

Liquorice – Nutrients are found in this which helps in balancing the thyroid gland and eliminates fatigue.
