India is soon going to get another big help in the fight against Corona. Bengaluru-based pharmaceutical company Zydus Cadila has sought approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use of its DNA vaccine for people aged 12 years and above. Trial of all three phases of this vaccine has been completed. If this vaccine is approved by DCGI, then this vaccine can also be included in the ongoing vaccination campaign in the country soon.
The Phase III trial of Zydus Cadila’s vaccine has been completed recently. The company said that the vaccine has been tested at 50 centers across the country. This is the first time that a vaccine has been tested in the population of 12 to 18 age group in the country. Data from the Phase III clinical trial of Zydus Cadila Vaccine suggests that Zycov-D vaccine is safe for children in the age group of 12 to 18 years. The company said that in the interim data, the vaccine has stood the standards of safety and efficacy.
There will be no need for injection to apply the vaccine
Zydus’s vaccine is being prepared on the basis of plasmid DNA, in which the protein of SARS-CoV-2 has been used. As soon as this vaccine is administered, the antigen of SARS-CoV-2 is formed in the body, which helps in making antibodies accordingly. This vaccine can be kept at a temperature of 2-8 degrees. This vaccine will be given in three doses. On the first day, then on the 28th day and finally on the 56th day. This is the world’s first ‘Plasmid DNA’ vaccine and will not need to be injected. Zydus claims that it is completely safe for children.
Plan to make 100-120 million doses every year
At present, people above 18 years of age are being vaccinated against corona in India. In such a situation, if the children of 12 to 18 years will also start getting corona vaccine, then it will help more in the fight against corona. After presenting the third phase data, Zydus Cadila has applied for the launch of its vaccine to the Drugs Controller General of India, India’s top drug regulator. The company plans to make 100-120 million doses of the corona vaccine annually.
According to the company, 120 million ZyCoV-D vaccines will be manufactured within a year at Zydus Cadila’s Gujarat plant. The production of the vaccine will start around the month of June this year. President of the COVID Working Group, Dr. NK Arora recently said that the trial of Zydus Cadila vaccine has been completed. By the end of July or in August, we can start giving this vaccine to children in the age group of 12-18 years.
