The path of corona vaccine for children in India is now cleared. The vaccine developed by the indigenous company Bharat Biotech for children has been approved in principle by the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI). Soon after this, now this vaccine will be given to children. According to sources in the Union Health Ministry, a blueprint is being prepared for when and to whom the vaccine will be given to the children first.

After making the vaccine for older people, Bharat Biotech had sought permission from the Union Health Ministry for a trial for the vaccine for children. Children’s vaccine trials were done in Patna, Delhi and some places. Dr Sanjay Rai, coordinator of the trial at Delhi AIIMS, told NewsNCR that during the trial he found that Bharat Biotech’s children’s vaccine is also safe like the vaccine for older people.

who will get the vaccine

According to the information received by NewsNCR, this vaccine will be given to children from 12 to 18 years. Even in this age group, first those children will get this vaccine who are comorbid (who already have a disease) children. According to the data of the central government, there are 18 crore children in the country who have to get this vaccine.

healthy kids later

According to sources in the Union Health Ministry, this vaccine will be given to comorbid children first. It will take about six months for children in this age group to be vaccinated. Only after this, this vaccine will be administered to healthy children. According to an estimate, healthy children will start getting this vaccine from the month of March next year.

What will be the side effects

Dr. Sanjay Rai told that the kind of side effects that were seen in adults after vaccination are being seen in children as well. For example, local pain, fever may occur at the place where the vaccine was given. Along with this, lethargy may also occur in some children after getting the vaccine. He said that the vaccine is safe even after all these side effects.

Vaccine will be available soon

In the official information released by Bharat Biotech, it has been informed that this vaccine will be available in the market soon. According to the statement, “This represents one of the first approvals worldwide for COVID-19 vaccines for the age group 2-18. Bharat Biotech extends its sincere thanks to DCGI, Subject Expert Committee and CDSCO for their prompt review process. We are now awaiting further regulatory approval from CDSCO before product launch and market availability of COVAXIN for children.” Further, “Bharat Biotech has submitted data from clinical trials for COVAXIN (BBV152) in the age group of 2-18 years to CDSCO. The data has been thoroughly reviewed by CDSCO and the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) and has provided its positive recommendations.”
