Scientists at the Cancer Research Institute of London have described photoimmunotherapy as very effective for the treatment of cancer. Scientists say that even small cancer cells can be eliminated with this therapy.
There is a ray of hope for the treatment of cancer all over the world. Scientists have described photoimmunotherapy as effective for the treatment of this deadly disease. This therapy has been successfully tested on rats suffering from brain cancer. Scientists conducting the trial say that photoimmunotherapy will completely eliminate cancer cells. Due to which the patient will be able to recover easily and the risk to his life will also be less. According to scientists, this photoimmunotherapy is the fifth important method of treatment of cancer after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and surgery. This will also not weaken the immune system and there will be no harm from this therapy.
Scientists at London’s Cancer Research Institute, who research photoimmunotherapy, say that in other methods of cancer treatment, some cancer cells are saved, due to which the disease is not treated well, but with the help of photoimmunotherapy, cancer can be cured. All the cells can be identified and eliminated. In such a situation, the question arises whether photo photoimmunotherapy can prove successful in human trials and can cure all cancer patients? To find out, Tv9 spoke to Dr. Anshuman Kumar, Director, Oncology Department, Dharamshila Narayana Super Specialty Hospital.
What is photoimmunotherapy
Dr. Anshuman explains that photoimmunotherapy is a new use in the treatment of cancer. In this therapy, cancer cells are seen with the help of light or RAYS. In this, small cells of cancer are seen glowing. They are identified and eliminated. This therapy has not yet been used on cancer patients. Some time ago it was used on newborns suffering from jaundice. A similar photodynamic therapy had also come before this, but it did not prove effective on serious patients.
Dr. Anshuman Kumar said that in most cases photoimmunotherapy proves beneficial only in early stage cancer. Because in the advanced stage, cancer cells spread to many parts and they are not easily identified with phototherapy. Since most of the patients in the country are diagnosed with cancer in the last stage itself, it is not necessary that this therapy will benefit all the cancer patients. For this, there is a need to run a large-scale awareness campaign regarding cancer.
Have the facility of screening at the district level
Dr. said that for the success of photoimmunotherapy, it is necessary that the cancer is identified at an early stage. For this, there should be a facility of screening at the district level. Make people aware of the symptoms of cancer. So that he can get cancer screening and treatment done on time. If cancer is detected in time, photoimmunotherapy can be of great benefit. However, at the moment it has to be seen how long the human trial of this therapy is done and what are its results. If the human trial is successful and work is done on a large scale for cancer screening, then this therapy will prove to be a major achievement in the history of cancer treatment.
