Writer Aniruddha Guha
Taapsee Pannu starrer film ‘Rashmi Rocket’ was released recently. The film got a great response from the audience. The film is based on a subject that narrates the pain of women sportspersons who have gone through it i.e. who have faced a brutal process like gender test. It is the exploitation of women in a way, which is an important process in the eyes of the sports administration. The credit for making this film made on a very brilliant issue goes to the producer, director and its actors as much as it goes to its writer.
The depth of any story can be reached only when it is well researched and after watching ‘Rashmi Rocket’ it seemed that the writer of this film Aniruddha Guha has worked hard on it. Anirudh, who wrote the story of shows like ‘Malang’ and ‘POW’, had a special conversation with NewsNCR. During this conversation, Anirudh also spoke openly about ‘Rashmi Rocket’, the rights of the writer and his grandfather and famous filmmaker Gulal Duha.
Voices will rise after ‘Rashmi Rocket’
Regarding the film ‘Rashmi Rocket’, Anirudh believes that through this film an awareness was seen among the people. People might not have even heard about gender test before watching this film, but now after watching this film of Taapsee Pannu, there has been an awareness among people and people are searching on the internet to know more things about it. Huh.
Anirudh says that a beginning has been made through this, which will take this issue forward. If something starts, then a debate also starts after that. It makes a lot of difference. If any legal firm will see this film, then they will feel that we should help such athletes. Some others will raise their voice on this issue. A conversation will start. There will be talks about this at the association level, then somewhere real change will come.
When did you think of writing the story of ‘Rashmi Rocket’?
Anirudh said- This story is of Tamil filmmaker Nanda ji. He has also been given the credit of the story in this film. He approached Taapsee Pannu for this, he wanted to make a film with her, but Taapsee wanted the film to be made in Hindi. After this, producers Pranjal and Neha took the rights of the film from him. At the same time, Taapsee had to work with Akarsh, so she decided that she would work on this film. When I entered the team of this film, it was a basic story. But I did the work of giving it color.
He said- I asked Akarsh for two months and then worked on this story. I prepared a 40-page script. From the producers to Taapsee, everyone read that script. After reading that script, it was in everyone’s mind that yes we are making this film now and that’s when the film was announced. After that I worked on the screenplay and the screenplay was completely based on my script. However, the real story is of Nanda ji and credit should always be given to him.
Writers got recognition
Apart from ‘Rashmi Rocket’, Anirudh also talked about the rights of writers very important things. He said- There are two reasons for writers to get recognition now. The first is that now the audience is getting a lot of good content on the internet. He is very smart. If the film does not have quality, then there is little hope of it running. Then whether it is made with new artists or with big stars. In today’s time every production house needs a good script. Writers are now being given attention on OTT, because there is a need for good content.
Talking about the legal rights of writers, Anirudh said – Writers have many rights, which are already in law. Many writers do not even know that they have rights. Many production houses make writers work according to their mind. However, very good contracts are already being made. The big production houses are writer friendly and they understand what kind of contracts should be made. There are many productions that do not exploit writers. Now contracts are made according to the writers, in which every right of theirs is taken into account. I worked with Ronnie Screwvala and Ekta Kapoor. The experience of working with them has been very good.
When did you get the idea of becoming a writer or joining the film industry?
Many people probably do not know that Anirudh is the grandson of Dulal Guha, a well-known filmmaker of Hindi cinema. Dulal Guha was a renowned filmmaker of the 70s and 80s. He had produced films like ‘Do Anjaane’, ‘Dushman’, ‘Khan Dost’, ‘Mere Humsafar’. Many times it happens that as is the family environment, the child of that house also starts dreaming of becoming the same from childhood, but it was not so with Anirudh. Anirudh never thought that he would enter the film industry or become a writer.
Anirudh says- I was brought up far beyond films, by then he (Dulal Guha) had retired. I was brought up in a normal family like that. But I would like to say one thing that I started watching good films very early. Since we were kids of the 90s, we used to watch movies of that time, but my mother was very fond of watching old movies. I sat with him and watched the films of Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor and Bimal Roy at a very young age. These were films that my friends never used to watch.
Social message used to live in grandfather’s films
He further said – There was no plan to become a writer. I never thought that going forward I would write stories or make films. Now when I watch my grandfather’s films too, I realize what a big name he was. There was a social message and social drama in his films. Along with entertainment, it is important for any story to have a social message as well. But entertainment is also very important. Rashmi Rocket is also one such film, which has a social issue as well as entertainment. I believe that you should make a film of any genre, but the truth should be shown in it.
Talking about his upcoming projects, Anirudh revealed that he is working on films of different genres, including one based on true events, a spy thriller and one on the armed forces. Apart from this, he is also working on four shows and series. In this, he is writing a show for Siddharth Roy Kapur, which will be directed by Vishnu Vardhan, director of Shershaah. Writing a show for Voot, which is based on true events. Anirudh is also working on a remake of an Israeli show. Apart from this, Anirudh is also writing the story of the second season of Jennifer Winget and Tanuj Virani’s Code M. These four shows and series are going to be released in the next one year.
