South and Bollywood Movies Box Office: For some time, the dominance of South films is being seen all over the world. It is not that any one film or any director’s film is running. It is not even that people are watching South films under the influence of any big superstar. Whatever the artist, whatever the topic, South films have got universal acceptance for some time now and the box office collection of these films is proof of this. The Hindi audience also now waits only for when a new South film will be released. There is no doubt that the more eager the Hindi audience is about South films today, the more enthusiasm is rarely seen on the release of a Hindi film. But when a big Hindi film is released, it performs well in many places but does not do well in the South.
After all, why South films do well not only in the regional language but also among the Hindi audience with the release and why Hindi films are not able to do well in the South. Let us first know from some statistics that how was the collection of Bollywood films released in the South in the past and how South Superstar films earned among the Hindi audience.
Box office figures of South films released in Hindi (Report of Bollywood Hungama)
- KGF 2 – 434.64 crores
- RRR – 274 crores
- Pushpa – 108 crores
Box office figures of Hindi films released in South (Report of Bollywood Hungama)
- Pathan – 14 crores
- Brahmastra – 4 crores
- Labyrinth 2 – 3.50 Cr
It can be clearly seen in the figures that how the films of big stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor created panic at the worldwide box office, but the earnings of these films in South were quite low. But at the same time, the films of stars like South’s Yash, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan earned so much in Hindi that big Bollywood actors could not do. During a conversation with TV 9 Bharatvarsh, trade analyst Sumit Kadel told why big Indian films are dying in South.
Sumit Kadel said- “It is a perception here that Hindi films do not work in South. The big cities there like Hyderabad, Kerala and Chennai, films are played there. Pathan has also done good business in the big city. Pathan’s earning has also crossed 12 crores and she will earn more than 20 crores in her lifetime. But the people from small towns and villages there worship the actors there. They do not know most of the Hindi stars either and even if they do, they do not know that their films are coming. We neither promote our films there nor go to their shows. Brahmastra film approached SS Rajamouli. Nagarjuna was included in the film. And from there the film did good business.
Sumit further said- “When our actors will go there. Will promote his films by going to small towns. If the content is good, actors from South will also be taken in it, then Hindi films will run there too. Like now Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan film is about to come. Atlee is directing it. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi. You will see that the film will do very good business there. There the film will earn 25-30 crores only in Tamil Nadu. So if we make films keeping in mind the target audience there, then the film will definitely work. And big Hindi films earn well in big cities there.
