Know who is Ramanujacharya Swami?
Ramanujacharya Swami was born in 1017 in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. His mother’s name was Kantimati and father’s name was Keshavacharyulu. Devotees believe that this incarnation was taken by Lord Adish himself. He received education in Vedanta under the Kanchi Advaita Pandits. He explained the Vishishtadvaita ideology and made temples the center of religion. Ramanuja was initiated into Vaishnava initiation by Yamunacharya. His great-grandfather Alvandaru was a priest of the Srirangam Vaishnava Math. ‘Nambi’ Narayan preached the mantra initiation to Ramanuja. Thirukoshtiyaru explained the importance of the ‘dual mantra’ and asked Ramanujam to maintain the secrecy of the mantra, but Ramanuja felt that ‘moksha’ should not be confined to a few people, so he would consecrate men and women equally. Climb on the Srirangam temple gopuram to announce the mantra.
Ramanujacharya Swami was the first Acharya to prove that all are equal before the Almighty. He treated Dalits like an elite class. He uprooted untouchability and other evils present in the society. Swamiji gave equal privilege to all to worship the Lord. He called the so called untouchables “Thirukulthar”. It means “divine birth” and took them inside the temple. He pioneered the Bhakti movement and advocated the philosophy which formed the basis of many Bhakti movements. He worked tirelessly for 120 years and proved that Lord Shriman Narayan is the ultimate liberator from the bondage of all souls.
