IEC is a reciprocal program that allows Canadian and international youth to work and travel in each other’s countries. The increase in applicants means that approximately 90,000 candidates will be eligible to work and travel to Canada. It also includes the youth of France, who will work to reduce the labor shortage. The program is in three categories

International co-op (internship) participants are given employer specific work permits, which allow students to gain hands-on experience in their field of study. Young Professionals participants are issued employer specific work permits to gain targeted, professional work experience. This is part of their field of study.

Minister Sean Fraser said, ‘Our government is helping international youth to move and work in Canada. This is also helping the employers, most of whom are associated with the tourism industry. They will also get workers for work.
