Indian Railways: Indian Railways (Indian Railways) By the year 2024, 100 percent electrification will be achieved. So far, the Railways has achieved this target in five different zones. With the electrification of Vikarabad-Parli-Vaijnath line, the North Central Railway also achieved this goal. Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra will benefit from this 268 kilometer rail route. The electrification of the Vikarabad-Vajnath-Parli line is significant, as this line connects southern parts of India and places like Shirdi, Pune and Aurangabad.

Indian Railways is working fast on the electrification of the country’s rail network. Till now 82 percent of the rail network has been electrified. The biggest benefit from this will be the environment.

6,366 km electrified in 2021-22

Indian Railways has embarked on an ambitious plan to electrify its entire broad gauge network. This scheme will not only lead to better fuel energy utilization but also reduce fuel expenditure, thereby saving foreign exchange. A record electrification of 6,366 kilometers was done during 2021-22 in the history of Indian Railways. Earlier during 2020-21, the maximum electrification was done of 6,015 km.

There will be less dependence on oil

By October 31, 2022, out of 65,141 km of broad gauge network of Indian Railways, 53,470 km have been electrified, which is 82.08 percent of the total broad gauge network. Railway Ministry is making various changes in the operation and construction of trains, these changes are being done to preserve both environment and nature. Electrification of railways will help in reducing the dependence on oil. This will also increase the revenue of the country.

By simply cutting oil imports, India can save 77% of its energy expenditure. Being the second most populous country, connectivity in India becomes expensive. It is the fourth largest railway system in the world after America, China and Russia. So it is necessary to cut down on your fuel cost spent on Indian Railways. According to an estimate, about 20.4 crore jobs were directly created in the initial phase of railway electrification. Further increase in employment can be seen.

this will also be beneficial

This step is very important for energy security. 100% electrification will reduce the consumption of fossil fuels by about 2.83 billion liters per annum, which will also reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Electrification can be considered as a more environment friendly option in Railways. Due to electrification, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of railways will be reduced by 24 percent by the year 2027-28. An estimated savings of Rs 13,510 crore per annum in the fuel bill is expected as the maintenance of electric locomotives is much easier and cheaper as compared to diesel engines.
