Himachal Pradesh Education News: A shocking report has come out from Himachal Pradesh. There is no principal in 75 percent of the colleges here. According to the general secretary of the Government College Teachers Association, in Himachal Pradesh more than 75 percent Government College Working without regular principal. Association general secretary RL Sharma said that out of 156 government colleges in the state, the posts of regular principals are vacant in 119. There are about 75 colleges which are running without their own buildings.
Under the New Education Policy 2020, at least 3,000 more teachers will be needed in colleges to implement the multidisciplinary education system. However, on this matter, Higher Education Director Amarjit Sharma said that 25 appointments of principals will be made soon by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC).
Questions raised on NEP 2020
Association general secretary RL Sharma said that it is unfortunate that the state government and the Himachal Pradesh University are talking about the implementation of the National Education Policy without considering the basic issues of faculty requirement and infrastructure. He said that at least 3,000 more teachers would be needed in colleges to implement the multidisciplinary education system under NEP 2020.
The state had 132 colleges by March 2022 and 24 new colleges have been opened in the last eight months, with an aim to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GIR) from 26.3 per cent to 50 per cent. These have been included in the main features of NEP.
