Recently Union Minister Smriti Irani said in the Lok Sabha that minority students are already covered under such schemes, hence it has been decided to discontinue Maulana Azad Fellowship.

Maulana Azad Fellowship: There has been a demand to restart the Maulana Azad Fellowship Program for minority students of the country. In the Lok Sabha, BSP MP Danish Ali said that for SC, ST and minority communities Pre-Matric Scholarship Used to be given which has been discontinued. This scholarship is for minority students from class 1st to 8th. There has been a demand to start this scholarship and Maulana Azad Fellowship back.
Many scholarship and fellowship schemes are run by the central government for SC, ST and minority students. Of these, the Maulana Azad Fellowship program was discontinued. There has been a demand in the Lok Sabha to start this fellowship program back.
Demand to restart MANF Scheme
Two MPs in the Lok Sabha on Monday demanded re-introduction of pre-matric scholarship and Maulana Azad fellowship for minority students. Danish Ali of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) while participating in the discussion on the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2022-23 and Additional Demands for Grants for 2019-20 in the House said that Scholarship and Maulana Azad Fellowship have been restored should go.

Central government closed fellowship
Recently Union Minister Smriti Irani said in the Lok Sabha that since Maulana Azad Fellowship Scheme Overlaps with various other fellowship schemes for higher education being implemented by the Govt. Minority students are already covered under such schemes. That’s why the government has decided to discontinue the MANF Fellowship from 2022-23.
