A bench of Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli has sought a response from the Government of India and the National Medical Commission.

The Supreme Court has sought response from the Central Government and others on a petition filed by a girl. The girl was denied admission in the medical course because of her stammer. Supreme Court A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, while hearing the matter, issued notices to the Government of India, National Medical Commission and others asking them to respond within three weeks.
The girl’s petition was heard in the Supreme Court. In this petition, the amended rules of the Medical Council of India on Undergraduate Medical Education, 1997 have been challenged for not getting admission in the graduation course. Now a reply has been sought from the NMC and the Central Government in this matter.
Admission not found in Medical Course
In the petition filed by the girl in the Supreme Court, it was told that due to the problem of stammer, she was denied admission in the medical course. After this the girl approached the Supreme Court.
Issuing the notice on behalf of the Supreme Court, the bench said that on the basis of the rules, the petitioner was not given admission in the course. It was told in the court that the obstacle in speaking clearly, ie stammering is more than 40 percent. However, the petitioner is suffering from standard disability under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
The petition filed in the Supreme Court has challenged the Graduate Amended Medical Education Regulations, 1997. Due to this the petitioner was not allowed to appear in the examination.
