This is a government district school, in Ganeshpur village of Washim district, Maharashtra. The name of the school is Zila Parishad Primary Marathi School.
The only child studying in this school is Karthik Shigaokar. Now he studies in third class. Karthik is the only student studying in this school for the last two years.

There is only one teacher here, whose name is Kishore Mankar. He teaches every subject to Karthik. Both go to school everyday. Kishore says that he goes to school every day after covering a distance of about 12 kilometers. Both offer morning prayers. sings the national anthem. Then the class starts.

Kishore told that ‘apart from Karthik, there is no admission of any other child in the school. But this will not stop his studies. The school administration wants to continue running the school. Even if there is only one student there. Mid Day Meal is also prepared and provided for that one child. The government is providing all the facilities.
Why only one student in the school?
Why is there only one student in this school despite so much discipline and ideal conditions? In response, Kishore says, ‘The total population of Ganeshpur village is around 150. Here classes from class 1 to 4 can be taught in the district school. But out of the total population of the village, only one child comes in this age group.
