Till now, Indian students have been turning to countries like Ukraine and China for medical studies. However, due to the war between Russia-Ukraine and then due to Coronavirus in China Indian Medical Students had to return to the country. Now students are going beyond China and Ukraine to study medicine in many such countries, which people generally do not know much about. There are some Eastern European countries in this, while some Central Asian countries are also included. Apart from this, medical students are also seen turning to Latin American countries, where MBBS education is cheaper.
According to media reports, 60 percent of the Indians studying medicine abroad are doing MBBS in China, Ukraine and Philippines alone. There are many reasons for going abroad to do medical, in which less number of MBBS seats is the most important. There are 92000 MBBS seats in India, out of which 48,000 are in government colleges and 44,000 are in private colleges. In the last six years, even though the government has increased the number of medical seats, but the competition for each seat has also increased simultaneously.
Which countries are Indian students going for MBBS?
Experts say that due to the fierce competition in getting a seat in India, students are turning to countries like Central Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe. These countries include Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Armenia. At the same time, Indian students are going to study in African countries like South Africa and Nigeria.
A large number of Indian students are doing MBBS in Russia as well. Its neighboring countries Latvia, Belarus, Romania and Moldova are also becoming favorite countries for MBBS students. Armenia, Caribbean country Curacao, Guyana are also attracting students. The thing to note here is that even in Nepal and Bangladesh, students are pursuing medical studies.

In fact, in view of the changes in the world situation in recent years, students want to go to such countries, where education is cheap. At the same time, the situation there should also be stable. The biggest reason for students to study in these countries is the cheap fees. In India, if someone wants to study medicine in a private college, then he has to pay a fee of at least Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore. It is not just a matter of affording such a fee for everyone. On the other hand, MBBS degree in these countries can be done for Rs 25 to 35 lakhs.
On the other hand, if other reasons are seen for doing MBBS from abroad, then NEET exam also has a big role in it. A good NEET score matters for admission to medical colleges in India. In India, the cut off for general category ranges from 715-720, but in these foreign universities, admission is given even if the cut off is 110.
