Important information regarding the students of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) has been given in the information brochure of IIT Guwahati.

Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is being organized for admission in prestigious engineering institutes of the country including IITs. nationwide JEE Exam are being conducted. For admission in IIT, students have to pass JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. However, a certain group of students will not be required to appear for JEE Mains exam to pursue engineering from IITs. They will be able to give JEE Advanced exam directly. This information has been given in the information brochure of IIT Guwahati, which is conducting JEE exam this year.
IIT Guwahati’s information brochure states that Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) students are not required to appear in JEE Main for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Students of both these categories had to give the first phase of the first entrance test for admission in IIT. After this, admission could be decided through advanced exam. In the 2022 admission cycle, these students were placed in the category of foreign nationals.

Will be able to register directly for JEE-Advanced
information brochure According to the process of foreign national students, it has been said that OCI and PIO students studying in India can directly register for JEE-Advanced exam. If any OCI and PIO students want to appear in JEE Main exam, they can do so. However, their marks in Mains will not be considered for shortlisting for JEE-Advanced.
It said, ‘Foreign national candidates who have studied or are studying at 10+2 level or its equivalent in India or abroad, at the time of registration for JEE Advanced 2023, need not appear in JEE Mains 2023. Such students can register for JEE Advanced by fulfilling the rest of the eligibility criteria.
There will be no reservation in admission
It has also been clarified in the brochure that students who are not citizens of India or do not have OCI/PIO card, will be treated as foreign nationals. OCI and PIO students will be given admission in IITs against the 10 percent seats that have been prepared for foreign nationals. These students will not get any kind of reservation during admission.
