After coming out of the clutches of the epidemic, there has been a recovery in the domestic economy and its benefits are being seen in the job market. According to the government, employment opportunities have increased in the country in the first quarter of this year. According to the report given by the Union Labor Ministry, total employment opportunities in nine sectors including manufacturing, health have increased by 10 lakh to 3.18 crore in January-March this year. At the same time, according to a report of the private sector, during June-August in the current financial year in the country, a growth of 28 percent has been registered in the travel and tourism industry.

What are the government figures

Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has released the report of the fourth round (January-March 2022) of the quarterly employment survey under the Employment Survey (AQEES). This includes manufacturing, construction, business, transportation, education, health, housing and restaurants, information technology/BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and financial services. A total of 3.08 crore people were working in these nine sectors in January-March last year. According to the survey, the total employment in these nine sectors was 3.08 crore on January 1, 2021 and 3.18 crore on January 1, 2022. Thus, employment in these nine sectors has increased by 10 lakh in the said period. The growth in employment reflects a revival in economic activity after the lifting of restrictions imposed in the wake of the second Covid wave in April, 2021. The minister said that the trend of growth in employment in these sectors is visible in the economy. According to the report, the highest number of workers i.e. 38.5 percent of the total workforce are working in the manufacturing sector. This is followed by 21.7 percent in the education sector, 12 percent in the IT/BPO sector and 10.6 percent in the health sector. The share of these four sectors in the total workers is about 83 percent. If we look at the establishments according to the number of workers, it is estimated that between 10 to 99 workers are working in 80 percent of the establishments.
