The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati has designed a 3D printed modular concrete post for the Indian Army. it is usually seen that Indian Army Key posts or posts are made of cement. In many areas adjacent to the border, sacks filled with sand are also kept after making them to give more security. Because of this, it takes a lot of time to build such a check post for the army and at the same time the expenditure is also high. Apart from this, they also have to be maintained on time.
At the same time, the beauty of this 3D printed modular concrete post developed by IIT Guwahati is that it can be installed at any place within 24 hours. This means that action can be taken on enemy territory by making posts in less time.
Actually, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Eastern Army Command of the Indian Army and IIT Guwahati. Under this, hands have been joined to create a cost-effective and sustainable defense infrastructure for the army. This 3D printed modular concrete post has also been prepared under this. In a way, it will act as a ‘protector’ for the Indian soldiers.
The whole design is divided into 36 modules
IIT Guwahati Director TG Sitaram said, “This 3D printed sentry post is completely modular and can be taken to the construction site and assembled there.” “The Sentry Post is designed with a curved wall shape and the design is divided into 36 modules of different sizes. These interlocking modules are printed using concrete formulations, using local materials.
easy to carry anywhere
Sitaram handed over the structure to Brigadier Deepak Gaur of the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army at the IIT Guwahati campus. He further said, ‘This developed technology is beneficial for the army, because the modular construction is easy to carry whenever and wherever it is needed.
The Indian Army also keeps needing it on the front fronts. This sentry post is 2.4 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and 2.4 meters high. The total printing time of all the modules was around 42 hours.
What are the benefits of 3-D Post?
- 3D printed modular concrete posts can be made in 24 hours.
- This post made for the army can be easily taken anywhere.
- This 3D printed post is cost-effective, that is, it does not cost much to make.
