A large number of Indians go to America to work. Out of this, a large population consists of skilled workers, who are given H1-B Visa. America to those foreigners H1-B Visa Gives, who work in the special field. However, America is now losing talented people, because people from many countries including Indians are not willing to work there. All these people are now going to Canada, the neighboring country of America, for work. In such a situation, the question arises that what is it in Canada that skilled workers from other countries including Indians are turning to there.
Actually, in Canada, the spouses of all foreign skilled workers are allowed to work, whereas in America it is not. Among the spouses of these foreign skilled workers are people who can contribute to the American economy in some way or the other. But this is not happening due to non-permission of work. Because of this, skilled workers are getting disillusioned with America and now they are preferring to work in Canada. These include a large number of Indian people, who are more like to work in Canada.
America will benefit from change in rules
The National Foundation for American Policy has revealed that more skilled migrants, including Indians, would prefer to work in the US rather than Canada, if the spouses of all skilled workers of H-1B visa holders were allowed to work.
“If the US changes the current work eligibility rules for spouses of H-1B visa holders, it could achieve significant economic benefits,” said study author Madeline Javodny. In addition, it can attract more people to work in the labor shortage and global competition for talent.
Spouses also have the opportunity to work in the US
In fact, the number of Indians seeking permanent residency in Canada is increasing rapidly. The number of Indians becoming permanent residents in Canada has increased by more than 115 percent between 2016 and 2020 and 2021. At the same time, in 2015, then President Barack Obama allowed spouses of H-1B visa holders to work in the US through H4 (dependent) visa.
H4 visas are issued to spouses and children who travel to the US with H-1B, H-2A, H-2B and H-3 visa holders. Spouses of H-1B visa holders are highly educated. Most of them hold degrees in science, technology, engineering and medical fields. Before coming to America, all these people must have worked in their field somewhere.
Why the US is not benefiting from the H4 visa?
Actually, people holding H4 visa have to apply for Employment Authorization Documents (EAD). H4 visa holders can apply for EAD only if their spouse holding H-1B visa is going to get a permanent visa. It takes years to get permanent residency. Because of this, many people apply for an H-4 visa when their H-1B holder spouse has worked in the US for at least six years. In such a situation, many people do not wait that long.
