Current Affairs: Keeping in mind the recent events, we will talk about homosexuality here for the preparation of Current Affairs. Gay supporters have got a victory in neighboring Sri Lanka. The Supreme Court has upheld the bill to decriminalize homosexuality. According to the current law, there is a provision of imprisonment and fine for homosexuality in the country. Homosexuals and their supporters were agitating for this in Sri Lanka for a long time.
After hearing all the parties, the Supreme Court said that the proposed law is not unconstitutional. The supporters are accepting this decision in their favor and are happy. He is hopeful that after getting the Supreme’s support, the way will be cleared for the law to be made.

decriminalize homosexuality
Now the support of MPs is necessary to pass this proposed bill. Government support is essential. Unless this bill is passed by the Parliament, it will not become a law. Till then homosexuality will not be considered outside the category of crime.
Even if the Supreme Court has upheld the bill. In such a situation, the demanders can be happy, but the legal noose will still be tight on them. It will be interesting to see what decision the Sri Lankan government and parliament take.
There is a case going on in the Supreme Court regarding gay marriage in India. The Government of India has made it clear that gay marriage cannot be approved in a country full of diversities. Yes, the Center has definitely told the Supreme Court that they are forming a committee under the chairmanship of the Union Cabinet Secretary, which will explore possibilities to protect the interests of gay people. The government has also made it clear that it is the job of the Parliament to make laws, let it do it.
