How Many Attempts in UPSC Civil Service Exam? The Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission is always in the news. Yes, why not? This is the way to go to the country’s most prestigious service IAS. Not only this, even in the world’s toughest exams UPSC Exam Counting happens. Very few people are able to crack the Civil Services UPSC exam in one go. Most of the candidates get success after several consecutive attempts. But efforts also have a limit. Do you know how many times you can give UPSC Civil Services Exam?
There is a lot of confusion among people regarding this. But you don’t need to get confused. Because the Union Public Service Commission itself has answered this question. The rules are different for each category. UPSC has told on the official website upsc.gov.in that how many times the candidates of which category can give the UPSC CSE Exam.
What is the rule of UPSC Attempts?
If you come from General or Economically Weaker Section i.e. EWS, then you can give UPSC Civil Services Exam maximum 6 times. If you are not successful in 6 times, then your chances are over.
If you are from OBC category, then the maximum attempt for UPSC exam is 9 for you. The maximum number of UPSC IAS Attempts is 9 even for Divyang candidates of General, EWS and Obosi.
If you are from SC or ST category then there will be no restriction on you. As long as you do not reach the maximum age limit as per the rules of the Commission, you can take the exam as many times as you want.
How are UPSC attempts counted?
If you have filled the UPSC Prelims form but did not appear for the exam, it will not be considered as an attempt. But if you have given UPSC Prelims exam then it will be considered as an attempt. Then whether you appear in the mains or not despite qualifying. You will lose one of your attempts as soon as you appear in a single paper of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
Even if you get disqualified or your candidature is canceled during the examination, it will still be considered as an attempt.
