Prakash Singh said that the need for a Hindu Study Center was being felt in the university. He told, ‘There are about 23 universities across India, where courses in Hindu studies are run. Delhi University also thought that there should be a center for Hindu studies.
PG and research courses will start first
The director of the South Delhi campus said, ‘We have a Buddhist study centre, but no Hindu study centre. We thought let’s see whether opening a Hindu Study Center is feasible or not. He emphasized that the committee will first focus on checking the feasibility of the center and then start the courses accordingly.
Prakash Singh said, ‘First we will start courses in postgraduate and research and later we can start graduate courses.’ He said that the committee will decide how many courses will be started and whether it will be started this year or next year. The committee also plans to present the outline to the Academic Council in the near future.
What did you say on the controversy regarding the center?
However, a member of the Academic Council has opposed the need for the centre. On the condition of anonymity, the council member said, ‘Where are the other centres, Sikh, Muslim and other centres. The university should start courses for these other religions as well. Singh said it was wrong to link it to any religion, as ‘Hindu is a way of life’.
He said that unfortunately we only see the religious part of Hinduism. Hinduism is a way of life. We have a history of thousands of years. The Center will focus on this aspect.
