IPS officer Mohammad Ali Shihab cracked the UPSC exam in the year 2011. After his father’s death, his mother put him in an orphanage.

UPSC Civil Services Examination is said to be the toughest examination in the country. The stories of candidates who cracked this exam are inspirational to lakhs of youth. One such example has emerged as an IPS officer from Kerala, Mohammed Ali Shihab. In 2011, he had secured 226th rank in UPSC. Shihab is an IPS officer who has done UPSC exam but he has struggled a lot to reach this position. Let’s take a look at their struggle.
Mohammed Ali Shihab is originally from village Edavannappara in Mallapuram district of Kerala. He was born on 15 March 1980 to Korot Ali and Fatima. Shihab has an elder brother, an elder sister and two younger sisters. Shihab’s childhood has passed in very difficult circumstances.
Childhood spent in orphanage
Shihab used to sell bamboo baskets and betel leaves with his father Korot Ali as a child. On 31 March 1991, Shihab’s father died due to some illness. After this the responsibility of the family fell on the shoulders of Shihab’s mother. Shihab’s mother was not much educated.
Just two months after her husband’s death, Shihab’s mother sent her 11-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter Sourabi and 5-year-old Naseeba to the Kuttikattoor Muslim Orphanage in Kozhikode. Shihab passed class 12th only by staying in an orphanage.
Passed 21 Govt Exam
After living in an orphanage for about 10 years, Shihab started studying in distance mode after returning home. Along with this, started preparing for government jobs. Shihab has passed 21 examinations so far, he has also worked as a peon, then railway ticket examiner and jail warden in the year 2004.
