The Education Minister said that girls above 18 years of age will be given maternity leave of 60 days every year. He said that 73% attendance of girl students would be valid, which was 75% other than menstrual leave. Earlier, he had told that the government is planning to implement menstrual leave in every university. Recently Cochin University of Science and Technology has implemented it.
On January 14, Cochin University announced menstrual leave for girl students every month. Higher Education Minister Bindu said that the government is planning to implement menstrual leave in every university, keeping in mind the problems related to the mental and physical health of girl students. According to the agency report, Cochin University has implemented menstrual leave following the demand of the Student Federation of India.
The university has announced that under the menstrual benefit, 2% additional attendance will be given to girl students every semester. Generally, students who have 75% attendance only get admission in the examination. However, for girl students, only 73% attendance will be considered for admission to the examination. In this regard, a proposal was handed over to the Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University by the Student Federation of India, which she accepted and decided to implement.
