Uttarakhand Police has started monitoring the roads with heavy traffic by installing NPR camera in the drone. The police have started challaning the drivers who violate the traffic rules on these roads. These challans are being done through automatic system. For this, the police have currently flown two drones, although there are plans to increase their number in the near future.
According to the traffic police, the problem of traffic jam in Dehradun is continuously increasing. In most of the places, the problem of jam is being created due to violation of traffic rules. Since there is no proper parking system in the city. In such a situation, people start parking their vehicles on the road itself. In such a situation, there is a jam. At present, the police have flown two drones to identify such vehicles and take challan action against them. NPR cameras have been installed in both these drones. Challan action is being taken by reading the number plates of vehicles from these cameras.

NPR camera is actually number plate reader camera. This camera is generally used by the traffic police only. With this camera, the registration plate of vehicles can be easily read. Generally, it is inconvenient to read the number plates of vehicles with a normal camera. Drone engineer Saurabh Kumar told that 10 to 15 challans are being done every day. With the help of these two drones, monitoring is done in a radius of 5 to 7 kilometers from the SSP office. Apart from this, even if there is a VVIP visit or program anywhere, the spot is monitored with the help of these drones.

SP Traffic Akshay Konde told that at present the focus of the police is on the vehicles parked in no parking. But soon it will be expanded. Police will be able to challan vehicles violating traffic rules even at Chowk intersections. For this, soon the number of drones in the city will be increased.
