A total of 147 faculty posts are lying vacant in the centrally funded Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). In Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), 8 posts of Chairperson, 21 posts of Chairperson in NITs are vacant.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed about the vacancy of posts in premier institutes like IITs.
Many posts are yet to be filled in premier technical institutes across the country. As on July 13, 2021, a total of 147 faculty posts are lying vacant in the centrally funded Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). The total sanctioned strength is 410. Responding to a question in Lok Sabha, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that 8 posts of President in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), 21 posts of President in NIT are vacant. In addition, 5 IITs and 5 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are functioning without directors.
The sanctioned posts in IIIT Allahabad are 109, out of which 28 are vacant. ABV-IIITM Gwalior has 73 sanctioned posts and 37 are vacant. PDPM-IIIT&M Jabalpur has 21 vacancies out of 84 sanctioned posts. In IIITD&M Kancheepuram, 50 out of 113 sanctioned posts are vacant, while in IIITD&M 11 out of 31 posts are vacant.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Generating vacancies and filling them with suitable, qualified candidates is a continuous process. IIITs are taking measures to attract quality faculty, which include year-round open notifications, invitations to alumni/scientists/faculty through search-cum-selection processes, special recruitment drives etc. A total of 204 faculty posts were lying vacant till January 2019. However, 48 faculty posts were filled during the period after January 2019 and up to February 2020.”
He said that faculty recruitment in IITs is done through rolling advertisement, which is open to all eligible candidates throughout the year. Recruitment in non-teaching cadre is regulated by the guidelines of the Department of Personnel and Training.
Pradhan said, “IITs were advised to follow the government guidelines issued from time to time in the matter of reservation in admission of students and recruitment of staff. IITs are conducting special recruitment drives to fill up vacancies belonging to OBC category, both in teaching and non-teaching cadre. In Central Universities, after the enactment of the ‘Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Act, 2019′, OBC reservation has been implemented at all levels.”
