Increased demand for MBA course
Experts are seeing the continuous falling demand in engineering courses by linking it with employment and demand. Engineers are not getting jobs after graduation. Such students are turning towards MBA. Many times students turn towards management education even after doing B.Tech from the top IITs of the country.
According to media reports, an analysis of data from 2017-18 to 2020-21 shows that more seats remained vacant in engineering colleges in the last five years than in management courses. The percentage of vacant seats in management institutes ranged between 34 and 37, while in engineering colleges the number of vacant seats was more than 45 per cent at times.
More than 4 lakh seats of BTech are vacant
According to the data shared by the Union Minister, 33.6 percent of B.Tech seats remained vacant in the academic year 2021-22. In 2021-22, 12,53,337 seats of B.Tech were approved, out of which more than 4 lakh seats remained vacant.
Around 8 lakh candidates every year engineering courses Joint Entrance Examination i.e. JEE Main exam is given for admission. In the academic year 2020-21, 44 percent and 44.2 percent seats remained vacant in 2019-21. The total number of sanctioned seats for engineering courses is also gradually decreasing in the last five years.
