The participation of women in the Armed Forces is continuously being increased. The Supreme Court last year only National Defense Academy (NDA) had cleared the way for women to participate in the exam. Thus the first batch of 19 cadets joined the Tri-Service Academy at Khadakwasla, Pune. These cadets are part of the 148th course of NDA (Women). At the same time, now pictures of the first batch of women cadets of NDA have come to the fore, in which they can be seen in uniform. During this, Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar Singh is also with him.
These women cadets joining the NDA will also have to undergo the same training as their male counterparts. They will be given training here for three years. Once the training is completed, they will be transferred to their service. Increasing participation of women in the army is a matter of pride in itself. After the Supreme Court allowed women to participate in the NDA exam, it is believed that the number of women cadets will increase every year.
This batch will pass out in 2025
The first batch of women in the NDA was inducted in June this year. There are 19 women in this batch, out of which 10 are for the Army, 6 for the Air Force and 3 for the Navy. This batch is part of the 148th course, which is going to pass out in May 2025. It can be seen in the pictures that women cadets have got their hair cut like boys. It can be seen in the pictures that Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar Singh is giving them tips. He met the women cadets undergoing training and motivated them to give their best in the future. Surgeon Vice-Admiral Aarti Sareen, Commandant and Director of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) was also present on the occasion.
1.7 lakh women appeared in NDA exam
Minister of State Ajat Bhatt had informed in Parliament in November 2021 that 1.77 lakh women appeared for the NDA exam. The final list of candidates selected in this exam was released on June 14, 2022. According to the report, out of 19 women to be selected, 10 will join the Army, 6 in the Air Force and 3 in the Navy.
Media reports have told that 1,47,000 women have registered for the 2022 NDA exam. This was about 22 percent of the total 6,69,000 candidates who had registered for the exam.
