Every year there are an average of 60,000 vacancies in the three services, out of which around 50,000 vacancies are for the Army. However, due to COVID, these recruitments were stopped.

There is a shortage of 1.35 lakh personnel in all the three armies of India. Most of the posts are lying vacant in the Indian Army. Indian army In all, 1.18 lakh posts are lying vacant. The Central Government has informed about this in the Lok Sabha. In response to a question, Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt said that by September 30, a total shortage of 11,587 personnel in the Indian Navy (sailors) was estimated. He said that by November 1, 2022, the number of vacant posts in the Indian Air Force (airmen and non-combatant) was 5,819.
The government said that the number of employees of other ranks, including JCOs, is vacant in the vacant posts in the Indian Army. In a written reply to Deepak Baij’s question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt said that as on July 1, 2022, there were 1,18,485 vacancies for Junior Commissioned Officers/other ranks in the Indian Army. He said that 40 thousand vacancies have been advertised for JCO/OR in the army.
Recruitment under Agneepath scheme
Minister Ajay Bhatt told that as of September 30, there were 11,587 vacancies for sailors in the Indian Navy and a total of 3,000 vacancies have been advertised for Agniveer in the Navy in the year 2022. The minister said that similarly in the Indian Air Force till November 1, there were 5,819 vacancies at the airman and non-combatant level. He said that in 2022, 300 vacancies have been advertised as Agniveer in the Indian Air Force under the Agneepath scheme.
On an average, there are 60,000 vacancies in the three services every year, out of which around 50,000 vacancies are for the Army. The minister said that recruitment rallies were suspended in the last two years due to COVID-19. This is the reason that at present there is a shortage of 1,08,685 soldiers in the Indian Army. He said that with the improvement in the situation of COVID-19 and the commencement of recruitment, these vacancies are expected to decrease in the coming years.
The number of vacant posts has already increased
Earlier, the government had said in July that over 1.16 lakh posts are vacant in the Indian Army, including 7,308 posts of officers. He told that 7,308 posts of officers are vacant in the Indian Army, while 471 posts of Military Nursing Service Officer are vacant. Apart from this, 1,08,685 posts of Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks were vacant. In this way the number of vacant posts has increased.
