Easy and transparent procurement process with the help of GeM portal
GeM (Government E-Market Place) portal is being used to make purchases related to goods and services used by Railways easy and transparent, so that the work of sellers can be easily implemented at every level. With the guidance of Vijay Sharma, General Manager – North Western Railway and his information technology experience, more than Rs 67 crore has been purchased on North Western Railway in the first 6 months of this financial year through this portal, which is moving towards Digital India. North Western Railway makes maximum use of GeM
According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer, North Western Railway, North Western Railway is a pioneer in the use of GeM in the procurement of goods and services and has made the procurement process easy and transparent by using it extensively. GeM Portal is an online platform where government procurement is done. It is a government procurement portal and works in the same way as personal purchases done on Flipkart and Amazon.
67 crore business done on the portal
GeM portal is being used on railways since the year 2017 and the rate of purchase through it is increasing every year. In the first 6 months of this financial year on North Western Railway, more than Rs 67 crore purchases/services were received through GeM, which is 31 percent more than the total purchases for the year 2020-21.
Services made easy with the help of GeM
This move by North Western Railway has contributed to the Digital India campaign of the Government of India to ensure efficient, effective and cost-effective governance. North Western Railway has facilitated all common services like vehicle and man power hiring services in procurement of goods and services by using the portal so that sellers of all levels can participate in the tender process with ease without any hassle.
The use of GeM portal for procurement of goods and services on North Western Railway represents a significant role in ensuring transparency, economy and efficiency under the Digital India Mission of the Government of India.
