Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said vaccination is the only medicine to boost the economy as it allows people to do regular business or farmers to take up farming. He said that 73 crore people of the country have taken the dose of anti-Covid-19 vaccine. The Finance Minister said, “The vaccination campaign is going on smoothly in the country and so far 73 crore people have taken the free dose of the vaccine. Today, through the vaccination program, people have been able to do business, buy products to run business, strengthen the economy or do farming, so vaccination is the only medicine to fight this virus to strengthen the economy.

Praying for no third wave of coronavirus
The Finance Minister said, “We are all praying that the third wave of Kovid-19 does not come. Suppose if third wave comes then everyone has to think about the availability of hospitals, even if there is a hospital is it ICU and if there is ICU then is it oxygen? For all these questions, the ministry has announced a plan to allow hospitals to accelerate their expansion.
Sitharaman said that hospitals located in rural areas can do expansion work by taking advantage of the schemes announced by the ministry. He said, “Through the report of Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank, we could see that they could take the schemes announced by the ministry to the beneficiaries (hospitals). This is necessary in today’s scenario. Not only public sector banks but also private sector banks should follow this.
Bank is present in 26 states and 4 union territories
Earlier praising the Nadar community for setting up the bank in Tuticorin in May 1921, the Minister said that today Tamilnad Mercantile Bank has got “universal acceptance” and is present in all 26 states and four union territories. .
He said that even a famous Greek writer, who has written extensively on matters of the global economy, had mentioned the Nadar community in his book. “So today it is no longer just a Nadar community bank or a Tuticorin bank, but it has a nationwide presence and deposits of over Rs 41,000 crore,” he said.
Sitharaman said that the bank is taking cautious steps in its approach to doing business. “By strictly adhering to the fundamentals, the bank has been able to handle any kind of crisis and has managed to survive for a hundred years,” he said.
