India is working on aluminum battery instead of lithium- Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has started work with Israeli startup Phinergy Limited to make aluminum air battery. Lithium is rare, so we have used an element that is naturally available in abundance in the country. Aluminum batteries will prove to be better than lithium batteries in many respects. First, they will potentially be cheaper, they can be used for a longer range, they will also be more safe. The supply of aluminum is better than lithium. But the constantly falling prices of lithium-based systems will challenge this. When the aluminum plate reacts with the oxygen in the air, the battery works by using the electricity generated. Battery cells cannot be recharged. That’s why Phinerjee is working on giving and recycling new batteries. IOC plans to use 30,000 filling stations as battery swapping stations.
