Railways did record freight traffic in September, earned Rs 10815.73 crore

Freight train speed doubled

The freight traffic of Indian Railways in September 2021 was 3.62 percent higher than the same month last year. The freight traffic of Railways during September, 2021, stood at 106 million tonnes, an increase of 362 per cent as compared to 102.3 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year. Let us tell you that many concessions / discounts are also being given in Indian Railways to facilitate freight transportation.

During this period, Indian Railways earned Rs 10,815.73 crore from freight traffic, which is 9.19 per cent higher than the corresponding period last year. In the same period last year, the Railways’ freight earnings were Rs 9,905.69 crore.

Important items shipped during the month of September 2021 include 47.74 million tonnes of coal, 11.24 million tonnes of iron ore, 6.46 million tonnes of food grains, 4.19 million tonnes of fertilizers, 3.60 million tonnes of mineral oil, 6.15 million tonnes of cement (excluding clinker) .

Freight train speed doubled

The speed of freight trains has been increased in the existing network. Improvement in the speed of freight trains is leading to cost savings for all stakeholders. The speed of goods trains has doubled during the last 20 months.

The COVID-19 situation has been used by Indian Railways as an opportunity to improve all-round efficiency and performance.
