American company will set up its semiconductor unit in Gujarat
America’s leading company in semiconductor – Micron Technology has decided to set up a big factory in Gujarat. According to Micron, in the first phase, the work of setting up units in an area of five lakh square feet will begin this year itself and will be operational by the end of next year i.e. 2024. Micron has expressed hope that the second phase can be started between 2025 and 2030. An investment of $ 825 million has been announced by the company in the project, while a total financial assistance of $ 1925 million will be provided by the Government of India and the state of Gujarat.
In this, five thousand people will get direct jobs while new employment opportunities will be created for fifteen thousand people. Assembling and testing of DRAM and NAND category products will be done in this unit of Semi Conductor. The company’s emphasis will be on converting wafers, considered the most important for semiconductors, into integrated circuit packages, memory modules and solid state drives (SSD) with BGA technology. Apart from meeting the domestic demands of India, it can also be supplied worldwide.
60000 Indian engineers will get training
American company Lam Research has announced to provide special training to 60,000 Indian engineers in the next ten years to overcome the shortage of experts in the semiconductor field. Looking at the use of semiconductors in the world from electric vehicles to artificial intelligence, there is a need for people in this field on a large scale. The facilities available in educational institutions are not sufficient.
Lam Research has announced to create a virtual semiconductor innovation universe in collaboration with Indian educational institutions, which can prove to be helpful in taking the Indian chip industry to the next level. American company Applied Materials has announced the development of such an engineering center at its unit in Bangalore, where applied engineers and large suppliers of the semiconductor industry and research institutes in this field can be brought on a single platform.
