This is done for the purpose of stealing sensitive information related to the account. These include your Internet Banking User ID, Password, PIN, Credit/ Debit Card/ Bank Account Number, Card Verification Value (CVV) number etc.
Safety Tips to Avoid Spoofing
- Keep in mind that the bank never sends an email to collect your personal information. If you are asked for your Internet Banking security details such as PIN, Password or Account number in an email, do not respond to it.
- Apart from this, take care of the padlock icon as well. The padlock icon is present anywhere in the browser window. For example, in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the lock icon appears at the bottom right of the browser window. Click or double click in your web browser, which will show you the security details of the website.
- Along with this, also check the URL of the webpage. When browsing the web, URLs (web page addresses) begin with “http”. However, in a secure connection, the address must begin with “https”. It is important to note the “s” given at the end.
