The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. During this, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Kharif crops for the 2023-24 marketing season. On this, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy says that this decision of the government will greatly benefit the paddy to maize, sunflower and cotton farmers of Telangana.
Coming from Telangana, Union Tourism and Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that since the year 2014, the central government has been continuously increasing the MSP. Telangana is the second largest paddy producing state in the country, so farmers here will get the benefit of increase in MSP of paddy. The MSP of major crops grown in the state has increased by 60 to 80 percent between 2014 and 2023.

Sunflower and cotton farmers benefited
Yes. Kishan Reddy said that sunflower, cotton, maize and paddy are cultivated in abundance in the state. From the year 2014 till now, the MSP of sunflower seeds has increased by 80 percent. At the same time, there is a contribution of increasing the MSP in benefiting the cotton farmers and encouraging the handloom and textile sector of Telangana. The MSP of cotton has increased by 75 percent since 2014.
Annadata means the income of the farmers has also increased since 2014. Telangana is the second largest producer state of paddy and also grows a lot of maize. The MSAP of both these crops has increased by up to 60 percent.
The MSP of these crops has increased
Among the major crops available in Telangana, the MSP of paddy-plain was Rs 1360 per quintal in 2014, now it has increased by 61 percent to Rs 2183 quintal. On the other hand, paddy-grade A was earlier Rs 1400 a quintal, which has now become Rs 2203 a quintal, which means an increase of 57 percent.

Similarly, the rate of maize has increased by 60 percent from Rs. 1310 to Rs. 2090 a quintal, sunflower seed by 80 percent from Rs. 3750 to Rs. 6760 a quintal, cotton (medium staple) by 77 percent from Rs. 3750 to Rs. It has increased by 73 percent from Rs. 4050 to Rs. 7020 per quintal.
Farmers benefited so much
This step of the government is in accordance with the announcement of the General Budget 2018-19, in which the MSP was to be equal to 50 percent more on the average cost of the crops. This has also happened with the crops grown in Telangana.
The average cost of paddy-plain in the state is Rs 1455 per quintal, while the MSP is 50 percent higher at Rs 2183. Whereas the cost of maize is Rs 1394 while MSP Rs 2090 quintal, sunflower seed cost is Rs 4505 while MSP Rs 6760 and cotton (medium staple) cost Rs 4411 while MSP Rs 6620 quintal.
