India has achieved a major success in the fuel sector. Till now, oil companies had to look towards foreign lands for reference fuel. India has achieved success in this field for the first time and has started its own production. Union Oil and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this is a very historic opportunity where India will be the fourth country in the world to produce it.
Its production has started in Paradip and Panapit in India. IndianOil has successfully started production of reference gasoline and diesel fuel for the first time in India. It will be available in packs of 200 litres.
where is the need
Automobile manufacturers for gasoline and diesel vehicles require better quality ‘reference fuels’ to develop engines and assess performance to ensure operation in all current global climate conditions.
Used in vehicle testing
Reference fuel has been used till now in the automobile sector. For example, it is required in testing engine of vehicles and other technical things. Emissions regulations and related fuel specifications vary significantly around the world. This is why OEMs developing new models require different types of reference fuels.
There was dependence on these countries
At present, it is being imported from abroad to meet the domestic needs in the country. At present this reference fuel is being imported from some selected companies of Europe and America. These fuels are important for calibrating and testing vehicles by automobile manufacturers and testing agencies like ICAT (International Center for Automotive Technology) and ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).
India will manufacture it soon
For decades, India has been dependent on imports to meet the demand for these specialty fuels. These indigenously developed products will replace imports ensuring reliable supply at low cost to vehicle manufacturers and testing agencies. Hardeep Singh Puri said that soon India will also export it.
