Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel last year. The name of this tunnel was earlier fixed as Rohtang Tunnel but later it was renamed after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. You will be surprised to know that this tunnel, built at an altitude of 10 thousand feet, is the longest tunnel in the world. The distance between Manali and Leh has reduced by 46 km since the tunnel opened for the general public. Earlier, it used to take 4 to 5 hours to cover the same 46 kms on this route.
