111 waterways have been declared as National Waterways.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Thursday that the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has identified 101 projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance connectivity of ports with consumption and production centres. Addressing a program organized by the industry body CII through video conference, he said that 111 waterways have been declared as national waterways.
The Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said, “It is important for India to reduce the cost of logistics. Our government is taking several steps to strengthen the logistics ecosystem across the country. “Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has identified 101 projects under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance connectivity of ports with consumption and production centres,” he said.
Work in progress on different projects
Sonowal said, the government’s infrastructure schemes like Sagarmala, Bharatmala Pariyojana (which aims to create a grid of highways across the country), Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) are in various stages of implementation.
PM launched Gati Shakti National Master Plan
Sonowal said that PM Modi had launched the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan last month. Gati Shakti National Master Plan aims to encourage multi-modal connectivity to reduce logistics cost.
100 lakh crore master plan
Sonowal said that the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) is fully ready to be connected to another port. Let us inform that on October 13, PM Modi launched the National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity for infrastructure development of 100 lakh crores. With the help of this plan, the government wants to reduce the transportation cost. This will help strengthen the economy.
