National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority controlling the price of drugs in India (NPPA) Has ordered to increase the prices of essential medicines by 12.1218 percent from April 1. NPPA controls the prices of about 800 drugs in the country. It has prepared a ‘National List of Essential Medicines’ for these medicines.
Medicines for everything from headache to diabetes are expensive
Medicines whose cost is going to increase include essential medicines ranging from common painkillers to anti-biotics, anti-effective, diabetes and heart diseases etc. This record increase in the price of medicines is the highest increase ever on an annual basis.
Last year too, the NPPA had allowed a 10.7 per cent increase in the price of medicines. The change in the wholesale price index was said to be behind this. This year also their price is being increased because of the change in WPI.
